His characteristic snarly, growly vocals are ever-present in Eric Schroeder’s new single, ‘High Low’, which comes ahead of his latest album, ‘Cat’s Game’, set for release tomorrow, April 11.

There’s something about Eric Schroeder‘s songs that bring out the mother in me, and want me to give him a big hug. It’s not that I think he needs one, but there’s something about his sound that feels, sad? Melancholy is probably a better word. Regardless of the mood of the song, or the nature of the lyrics, Schroeder always sings like he’s carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. And perhaps he just is.

All this is set to change however with ‘Cat’s Game’. While his previous album, ‘Turned On The Stereo’ was rammed with the sort of pensive tunes I describe above, this new long player promises to be a cathartic release for Schroeder. Nonetheless, while new single, ‘High Low’, which dropped on April 2, through Enabler No. 6 Records, has an upbeat enough instrumental backing, but it’s still got a feeling of sadness, perhaps a resignation to accepting the lot dealt to him in life.

‘High Low’ is paired with a music video, directed by Alex Shelley and starring Freya Kargard as Schroeder. The cold and stark PNW vibes and sometimes blurry, 80s cinematography don’t seems like Schroeder has turned much of a corner, and more than anything, actually add to the discomforting aura of the song itself. Nonetheless, the jangly electric guitars, and energetic drums bring with them the promise of something less pensive to come.
