It was a sold out Friday night show for Kerry King and special guests Municipal Waste and Alien Weaponry at the 1,200 capacity Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles on February 21st. The venue was packed with well known musicians for this killer ticket. Kerry King put on a performance that you would expect from thrash legends. Having Mark Osegueda, Phil Demmel, Paul Bostaph, and Kyle Sanders in the band with Kerry is going to give you a good time. The stage was Slayer-esque with Marshall amps lining the back, read upside down crosses but now adorned with Kerry King’s emblem. They were explosive the second they stepped out from backstage. Playing original music from their debut album, “From Hell I Rise,” and then classic Slayer bangers: “Raining Blood” and “Disciple,” the fans were having the time of their lives. The pit was wild, and it was a sea of feet in the air from all the crowd-surfing.
Municipal Waste electrified the audience with their crushing stage presence and their fun, party rock n roll. Every musician on that stage brought something to the show and it was phenomenal. The crowd-surfing and stage diving was at an all-time high during their set. It’s special when a band is able to make everyone have fun. One of the highlights was the crowd shouting, “MUNICIPAL WASTE IS GONNA FUCK YOU UP! MUNICIPAL WASTE IS GONNA FUCK YOU UP! MUNICIPAL WASTE IS GONNA FUCK YOU UP!” for maybe over a minute before they finished with “Born to Party.” They’re always a tough act to follow.
Alien Weaponry opened the night with so much energy and their unique take on metal. They are a three-piece band from New Zealand and their music has inspiration from their Waipu culture. Somehow, they’re able to perfectly combine nature and splintering metal and make it their own. They were truly impressive and so captivating. Everyone was talking about them throughout the night.
Their North American tour ended on February 22 in Las Vegas after starting in Canada at the beginning of the month. This tour will be one of the best of the year, and it’s exciting to see Kerry King’s still got it.
